Maths at Garland

The maths curriculum at Garland Junior school is based upon the WRM scheme this builds children natural curiosity for numbers, puzzles and problem solving.   When teaching mathematics our intent is to:

Encourage children to persevere, learn through their mistakes and build resilience.

Ensure the good use of resources, modelling and pictorial representations to support children’s learning.

Provide activities that are clearly differentiated to allow each individual to make good progress.

To facilitate this learning the maths curriculum should be delivered through a variety of practical activities, written investigations and oral discussion.

Mathematical vocabulary should be used whenever possible and displayed clearly around the classroom. Children should be encouraged to see the practical applications of maths in the real world to develop a natural curiosity for number and shape.
