Reopening the school to Year 6 from 1st June

Please note: During phase one of reopening, the school will be open to Year 6 and children of key workers only. All other pupils are to remain at home until further notice.

The information provided here will only apply once the UK Government has indicated that it is safe for us to open. We anticipate that this decision will be made on 28th May and we will then send a short text message to confirm whether these plans will be going ahead.

We have reviewed all of the guidance provided by the Department of Education and put in place a series of stringent measures to ensure pupils and staff are as protected as possible. We are confident that our arrangments go beyond those advised by the government.

Despite all of these measures, it is impossible for us to guarantee that the risk of contracting COVID-19 will be entirely eliminated. The task of keeping pupils, who will be eager to see one another, 2 metres apart is an extremely difficult one - it is unrealistic for us to state that pupils will remain socially distant from one another at all times. I would therefore ask that Year 6 parents in particular digest this information, alongside reviewing your family circumstances, and decide whether you wish your child to attend from the 1st June. Your decision will be respected and understood -  at the current time, there is no penalty for lack of attendance.

Please read the letter below from Miss Dawkins for full details - a copy of the school's risk assessment is available from the school office on request.

'Determination, Respect, Teamwork'

Welcome to Garland Junior School

Garland Junior School is a fully inclusive school dedicated to raising the standards of achievement for all children. The staff and governors are committed to ensuring children achieve their full potential and enjoy learning.

The school leadership team encourages staff to be creative in their teaching - using technology, the outdoor environment and team building opportunities to inspire young minds.

At Garland everyone works together to champion the emotional welfare of pupils. This is a fundamental component for future success - ensuring pupils are confident in themselves, respectful towards others and ready to learn.

We hope this website contains all the information you require. If you would like a paper copy of any details please ask at the school office. If you would like to make an appointment to look around the school, to meet the staff and to discuss your child's needs please telephone or email us at the number or address below.
