Special Educational Needs
Garland Junior School
Special Educational Needs Information Report 2019-2020
The setting
Garland Junior School is a fully inclusive school set in the heart of the village of Burghfield Common. It is a two form entry junior school dedicated to raising the standards of achievement for all children. The school is fully accessible, being all on one level with access ramps, and has disabled toilet facilities.
At Garland, all staff are committed to ensuring children fulfil their potential. Most of our children come to us in Year 3 from Mrs Bland's Infant School and move on to The Willink at the end of their time with us. We have strong links with both these schools, and other local schools, ensuring smooth transitions.
Garland Junior School was inspected in March 2018 and graded 'good' by Ofsted.
The Inclusion Manager, Mr Chivers, can be contacted via the school office.
Provision for SEND children
At Garland Junior School we refer to The SEND Code of Practice for 0-25 Year Olds where the definition of SEND is stated as follows:
'A child or young person has SEN if they have a learning difficulty or disability which calls for special educational provision to be made for him or her.
A child of compulsory school age or a young person has a learning difficulty or disability if he or she:
- Has a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of others at the same age, or
- Has a disability which prevents or hinders hm or her from making use of educational facilities of a kind generally provided for others of the same age in mainstream schools or mainstream post-16 institutions.'
Our admission arrangements for pupils with SEN or disabilities are in line with West Berkshire criteria. If you feel your child will need additional support or has, or is likely to have, a statement or EHC plan then please contact the SEN team on 01635 519713
Our School Local Offer covers the 13 key statutory points laid out in The Special Educational Needs and Disability Regulations 2014 , Schedule 1, setting out in detail our current SEN provision.
It is available via the link below.
If you require a hard copy of the Local Offer please contact the school office.
If you have a complaint about the support the school provides for special needs, please follow the procedure laid out in the school complaints policy which can be found under the policies tab.
